Pics 1, 2 3 & 5: Three days, two nights wild-camp above Dubh Loch. 17km walk-in (5 hours) from Poolewe. The only trees remaining in this forest generally being the thousand(s)-year old stumps preserved in the peat that are revealed as you thread through the crevassed hags. The Meadow Pipit's 'parachute' courtship display provided an entertaining sideshow to the main event which was the scale of the wilderness.
4: A' Mhaighdean (The Maiden), often considered the most remote Munro. Left our boots in the tent and skipped up in fell shoes but these were inadequate to negotiate a snow gully descent around pinnacles on the west ridge. Turned back 100m from summit returning to tent for 20:00hrs.
6: Beinn Dearg Mhor, heather bash/peat hag approach, then steep ascent in stiff wind. Nodded off against the summit cairn and woke up sleep-talking, 'Yes but he's not agin a Guide Drive.' (?) Then met dad and 2 kids in wellies, up from Sheneval bothy. 'Wellies are under-rated/I've crossed that bog before/I'm trying to break these kids in to mountaineering early.'
7, 8: Beinn Airigh Charr on the way out, not a Munro so many top-tickers would bypass the impressive vista it offers.
