Got involved in rescue of fallen climber who was about 3 routes along the crag from us. Not sure how far he fell but he landed on a ledge first then fell backwards another 2 or 3 metres to the deck. He was in a very bad way with an obviously fractured skull. Sorry about the detail but he had lower leg fracture and possibly a pneumothorax (punctured lung) but the biggest factor in his prognosis was the lack of helmet.
Just want to thank my climbing/cycling buddies who always insist on helmets. I don't feel qualified to criticise magazine pictures of climbers without lids but I know that what I saw today didn't look too glamorous.
Haven't been able to find out how he is, hoping for the best.
